Abstract This paper aimed at examining the financial involvement and
exogenous changes associated with funeral ceremonies among the Urhobo
people in recent time. It argues that over a period of time, from the era of
colonialism in Nigeria, social change factors and processes such as
urbanization, modernization and globalization have introduced continuous
changes in the Nigerian culture of which the Urhobo culture as regards to
funeral ceremony have greatly been affected. This paper observed that, due
to response to new technology, innovative ideas and evolving values from
home and abroad, special traditional passage rite for the dead have given
way to mega parties for celebrations and show of affluence to friends and
social clubs members. It is now difficult to see the tears of children and
family members at interment venue rather, they are more concerned about
entertaining their friends and associates in reception venues. Some
problems generated by this modern trend are highlighted by this write up
as; financial crises, stress and ill health, marital problem/divorce, drunkenness and high crime rate among
others. This paper therefore concludes that this trend is posing serious threat to the unity, economic
growth and development of the Urhobo Nation. It recommends among others, that Urhobo People should
be re-socialized properly to imbibe the traditions and values of their culture.

Abstract This article explores impact of forced displacement on internally displaced persons (IDPs) in
north-eastern Nigeria. Forced displacement involves the involuntary movement of people from
their habitual place of residence to a location within their country of nationality. The situation
exposed the displaced people to some level or degree of vulnerability. Since 2009, the Boko-
Haram (BH) insurgency and the counter-insurgency by the government forces have turned
north-eastern Nigeria into a conflict zone. The violence has forced more than 2 million people to
flee for safety within Nigeria as IDPs. The paper employs qualitative research methodology.
Data are gathered from mainly secondary and tertiary sources. From the findings, the IDPs in
north-eastern Nigeria are facing critical problems due to lack of a clear national policy,
institutional, and legal frameworks to arrest forced displacement. Thus, it is recommended that,
the legally backed national policy on IDPs and initiatives be strengthened. Lastly, the rule of
engagement between the Government and the international humanitarian agencies be succinctly
defined.

Abstract This paper seeks to examine the establishment and ratification of the African
Continental Free Trade Area Agreement (AfCFTA) as an endeavour on the part of the African
Union to promote intra-African trade. The African socioeconomic development and industrial
competitiveness is anticipated to increase as a result of the AfCFTA. The agreement is expected
to link 1.3 billion people in 55 nations, with a $3.4 trillion global GDP. By 2035, it is projected
to be able to save 30 million people from abject poverty. The AfCFTA will result in a significant
liberalization of trade in products and services within Africa, making it simpler for business
people to conduct international business and lowering trade costs. However, there are concerns
that putting the agreement into practice successfully in a continent with limited capacity,
uncompetitive industries, and reliable infrastructure will be difficult. The research relies on the
secondary sources of data collection, which include the use of such materials as textbooks,
journals, newspapers, magazines and internet sources. The paper analyses the political-
economic dynamics and argues that the success of AfCFTA will be greatly influenced by a
number of variables, including member states level of commitment, the availability of cutting-
edge technology, technical capacity, and essential infrastructure, the transparency and
accountability of processes, and how infractions and complaints are resolved.
